About Jikko-in
Jikko-in is a small temple next to the large Sanzen-in temple complex. The temple was originally established as a monastery for Buddhist monks of the Tendai sect and focused on shomyo, a kind of chanting that influenced Japanese music. Most people visit it for its beautiful view of its garden from the Kyu-den guest area while enjoying a nice cup of green tea.
My Visit
Like most people, I usually visit Kyoto by train and visit locations within the city by foot, train, and subway. However while the city of Kyoto has a lot of history and interesting places to visit, there’s also a whole Kyoto Prefecture outside the city. Ohara is one of those fantastic places to visit if you have access to a car or can join a tour bus there.
Our main goal was to visit Sanzen-in (which I also posted goshuin for), but since we took the time to drive all the way out into the countryside of Kyoto we had to wander around. Why wouldn’t we?
The temple is quite small and has a patio along the outside where you can sit an gaze at the garden while enjoying tea. You can also handle the instruments they have on display.
